Bukowski - the luck of the word

la suerte de la palabra

a lo largo de los años
recibí cartas
de hombres
que dicen
que leer mis
libros
los ayudó
a soportar,
y a seguir.

este un es alto elogio
efectivamente
y yo sé lo que
quieren decir:
mi coraje para
seguir fue gracias
a la lectura de
Fante, Dostoevsky,
Lawrence, Celine, Hamsun
y otros.

La palabra
cruda sobre la página,
las similitudes de
nuestros infiernos,
cuando todo llega con
especial
fuerza,
esas palabras y
lo que dicen
ayudan
a que pasemos nuestros culos
a través del fuego.

un buen libro
puede hacer
una casi
imposible
existencia,
vivible

para el lector
y
el escritor.

the luck of the word: throughout the years/ I have gotten letters/ from men/ who say/ that reading my/ books/ has helped them/ get through,/ go on.// this is high praise/ indeed/ and I know what/ they mean:/ my nerve to go/ on was helped/ by reading/ Fante, Dostoevsky,/ Lawrence, Celine, Hamsun/ and others.// The word/ raw on the page,/ the similarities of/ our hells,/ when it all comes/ through with/ special/ force,/ those words and/ what they speak/ of/ do help/ get our asses/ through the/ fire.// a good book/ can make an almost/ impossible/ existance,/ liveable// for the reader/ and/ the writer.
